Description

1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin PR/PF70 (Random Year, PCGS or NGC)

The first coin added to the Proof Gold Eagle collection after the 1986 release of a 1 oz coin was the 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagle. Released in 1987, it has been struck in every year since that time with the exception of 2009 when all proof coinage was suspended for one year by the US Mint. The 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coin is now available to you for purchase online with a perfect certification.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coin arrives inside of a protective plastic slab courtesy of the NGC or the PCGS!
  • Released annually from 1987 onward!
  • Limited availability of certified perfect coins!
  • Contains 1/2 Troy oz of actual gold content.
  • Issued a face value of $25 (USD) by the United States.
  • Bears a Grade of PF/PR70 from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation or the Professional Coin Grading Service.
  • Lady Liberty from Augustus Saint-Gaudens on the obverse.
  • American bald eagles by Miley Busiek on the reverse.
  • “P” mint marks from Philadelphia or “W” mint marks from West Point.
  • Please note you could receive several coins with the same date mark when buying more than one.

Fractional-weight Proof Gold Eagles were added over a two-year span including 1987 and 1988. The 1 oz coin was offered first with the rollout of the bullion Gold Eagles in 1986. In 1987, the US Mint introduced 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagles. While the 1 oz coins have always been struck at the West Point Mint, that is not the case for fractional coins.

There are two important factors to note about Proof Gold Eagles. First, coins such as the 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagle have “P” mint marks from the Philadelphia Mint for date marks from 1987 to 1993. Second, all Proof Gold Eagles have date marks in Roman numerals from introduction to 1991.

On the obverse of 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins is Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ 1907 depiction of Lady Liberty. The reverse side features a family of American bald eagles at its nest and was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek.

These 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins all have PF/PR70 certifications from the NGC or the PCGS. These coins are perfect specimens and have their full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws on the design elements or background fields.

JM Bullion offers these coins to you as a random purchase option. We’ll select your coins at random from our available stock once your payment has been processed. While we guarantee all coins are certified perfect specimens, we cannot handpick specific date marks or select varying date marks for you if you purchase more than one coin.
