The White Lion of Mortimer comes to the Royal Arms of England and Queen Elizabeth II through King Edward IV. King Edward IV was the first monarch from the House of York and claimed his right to the throne through Richard, Duke of York. Edward IV came to the throne in 1461 after defeating the Lancastrian armies of King Henry VI. Edward IV would rule from March 1461 to October 1470 when Henry VI briefly returned to the throne. Edward IV again defeated the Lancastrians in April 1471 and returned to the throne until his death in April 1483.
The obverse side of 2021 10 oz British Silver Queen’s Beast White Lion Coins includes a right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in a fifth-generation effigy that was created in July 2015 by Jody Clark. The design shows the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown and includes a guilloche background element that replicates the appearance of braided rope and is meant to deflect light in different ways as an anti-counterfeiting measure.
On the reverse face of 2021 British Silver Queen’s Beast White Lion Coins is an image of the White Lion of Mortimer. The White Lion stands tall and confident on its hind legs with its right forepaw on the shield and its left forepaw raised and ready to strike.
