The Royal Mint’s new British Lion-American Eagle bullion series is back in 2025 with a new design that follows its popular debut in 2024. The 2025 range features a depiction of the iconic emblems of the United Kingdom and the United States, with the imagery designed by famed former US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti. Each of the 2025 1 oz British Gold The Lion and The Eagle Coins arrives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. These coins are packaged individually in plastic flips, with multiples available in either acrylic tubes of 10 coins or Monster Boxes of 100 coins. Each box holds 10 tubes.
The British Lion and American Eagle are iconic emblems of the respective nations. The lion emerged as a British symbol through heraldry, first appearing on royal arms in the 12th century under Richard I (the Lionheart). Initially depicted as leopards, these became the three lions still seen on England’s coat of arms. The lion’s association strengthened during the British Empire, appearing on colonial emblems and military insignia.
The obverse of 2025 British Gold The Lion and The Eagle Coins comes with a depiction of His Majesty King Charles III. This portrait of Charles III offers a left-profile relief without a crown included on His Majesty’s head. This design was created for The Royal Mint in late 2022 by Martin Jennings.
On the reverse of 2025 1 oz Gold The Lion and The Eagle Coins is a design from John Mercanti. The former US Mint Chief Engraver offers a harmonious combination in which the American bald eagle sits in the foreground looking to its left while the mighty British Lion is depicted in the background in right-profile relief looking the same direction as the eagle.
