The 2008 release of 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagles was the third in the series and last before a two-year hiatus. Amid rising demand for gold bullion during the Great Recession, the US Mint diverted all available gold blanks to the production of BU Gold Eagles.
All of the 2008-W 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagle Coins available here come in capsules. The coins are available in a presentation box with a Certificate of Authenticity included. Burnished coins have beautiful matte visuals throughout.
Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ famous depiction of Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse design of the 2008-W Burnished American Gold Eagle Coin. This portrayal of Liberty shows her holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, walking towards the viewer with rays of sunshine in the background, the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet, and a ring of stars surrounding the field.
The reverse design of the 2008-W 1 oz Burnished Gold Eagles showcases Miley Busiek’s captivating representation of a family of bald eagles. The male eagle soars above the nest with a large branch in its talons as the female eagle guards her hatchlings in the nest.
