The 2021 release schedule started with the original design combinations in place, allowing the US Mint time to create the dies used in striking the new design and the time to replace the dies in its coining presses to launch production of the new imagery.

In this depiction of Liberty’s full-length figure, she is shown walking toward the viewer with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The U.S. Capitol Building is visible at her feet in the background, with sun rays behind her figure and 50 stars around the design element.

In the reverse design of 2021 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Type 2 Coins, the all-new bald eagle design debuts. This creation comes from Jennie Norris and depicts a bald eagle in left-profile relief with its stirring gaze fixed directly on the viewer.
