2026 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coin (BU)
The American Gold Eagle marks its 40th anniversary in 2026. The Gold Eagle Series features four coin weights for investors, with a 1 oz gold coin and three fractional-ounce coins. The 1/2 oz Gold Eagle is the largest fractional-ounce coin in the series and has been offered since the debut of the collection in 1986. Right now, 2026 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are available.
Coin Highlights:
- Arrives in a plastic flip or an acrylic tube of 40 coins!
- 40th anniversary for Gold Eagles!
- Contains 1/2 Troy oz of actual gold content in BU condition.
- Bears a face value of $25 (USD) backed by the federal government.
- The obverse features Lady Liberty.
- On the reverse is the head of the bald eagle.
- Please note that the US Mint has not yet released designs, and images are subject to change.
Each of the 2026 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins comes in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The largest fractional-ounce coin in the series is available individually in plastic flips or by multiples of 40 coins in acrylic tubes.
While four weights have been available in the Gold Eagle Series since its debut in 1986, not all four have experienced the same demand and interest from investors over the last four decades. The 1/2 oz Gold Eagle set its record mintage level back in 1986, with 599,566 coins sold. While other weights saw record spikes in demand during the late 1990s and early 2010s, the 1/2 oz Gold Eagle has yet to surpass its original mintage.
The obverse of 2026 American Gold Eagles comes with the iconic Lady Liberty design from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. This detailed depiction of Liberty offers a front-facing view as she strides toward the viewer, holding a torch aloft in her right hand and clutching an olive branch in her left. The background includes the U.S. Capitol Building, rays of sunshine on the horizon, and a ring of stars.
On the reverse of 2026 1/2 oz Gold Eagle Coins, you’ll find the modern image of an American bald eagle. Designed by Jennie Norris, this image was introduced five years ago to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the series. It depicts an eagle’s head in left-profile relief with exceptional levels of detail in the bird’s appearance.
