The American Gold Eagle is the official gold bullion coin of the United States, and 2026 marks its 40th anniversary. Introduced in 1986, this series is available with a 1 oz gold coin and three fractional-ounce gold coins. The 1/4 oz Gold Eagle is often overlooked in the series, but has been available to investors each year since 1986. Now, 2026 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are available online.

For the obverse of 2026 1/4 oz Gold Eagle Coins, the US Mint features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ iconic image of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1907, this front-facing visual captures the full-length figure of Liberty walking toward the viewer with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.

In the reverse design of 2026 American Gold Eagles, you will find a modern image of the American bald eagle. Introduced on the coins in 2021, the image shows the head of a bald eagle in left-profile relief. This new design was introduced during the 35th-anniversary celebration and was created by Jennie Norris.

The 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle shares a similar story to its 1/2 oz counterpart in terms of demand. Both coins hit their high marks for mintage during the 1986 debut of the series. While both weights have seen demand increase during periods of economic uncertainty, neither has come close to replicating the demand of the first issue year.

These 2026 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are individually packaged in protective plastic flips and available in tubes of 40 coins. The 1/4 oz Gold Eagle is the only one of the four options that has a face value not in line with its weight. The $50 (USD) face value of the 1 oz coin is easily divided into $25 for the 1/2 oz coin and $5 for the 1/10 oz coin, but not so for the 1/4 oz coin.
