Liberty is presented from the front, walking forward with a torch held in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Stars form a border around the design, while radiating sunbeams spread across the background.
The reverse of the 2026 American Gold Eagle Coin features the updated bald eagle portrait. Designed by Jennie Norris in 2020, this modern image depicts the eagle’s head in left-profile relief.
The primary design of Gold Eagles features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ magnificent Liberty design from the 1907-1933 Double Eagle, widely considered one of the most beautiful coins ever produced by the U.S. Mint. The original reverse, designed by sculptor Miley Busiek and replaced in 2021 by the current design, depicted a family of eagles representing American values and strength.
