The 1 oz Gold Eagle has proven the most popular among the four weights available in the Gold Eagle Series. Over the last four decades, the 1 oz Gold Eagle has consistently had the highest mintage figure annually, with the 1/10 oz Gold Eagle the only other weight to surpass the 1 oz Gold Eagle in terms of mintage levels.
Lady Liberty is on the obverse of 2026 American Gold Eagles. Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907, this image was initially created for the $20 Double Eagle and was groundbreaking in its day. The image shows the front-facing effigy of Liberty as she strides toward the viewer, clutching an olive branch in one hand and a torch in the other.
An American bald eagle features in a refreshed design on the reverse of 2026 1 oz Gold Eagle Coins. Created in 2020, this design debuted on the coins in 2021 and was developed by Jennie Norris. This naturalistic design captures a close-up view of the eagle’s head in left-profile relief with exceptional levels of detail.
