The obverse of this the 2022 Proof Macau Lunar Tiger Silver Coin is a figurative gem. The silver fields are offset by the orange tile and Swarovski crystal embedded in the coin. The tiles are used to create the image of a tiger hunting in the jungle. Patterned blue and black elements play across the tiles for added visual complexity that really makes this coin a piece of art. Behind the tiger, simple lines create the look of a jungle or forest. Near one of the tiger’s paws, the orange crystal sparkles.
The reverse of the coin depicts St. Lawrence’s Church, which is a historic church that still operates in Macau. The facade of the building is shown in great detail and includes the stained glass windows, clock and bell towers and even some of the statues in front of the church. St. Lawrence is the saint of navigation, and the church is also referred to as the Church of Smooth-sailing Winds (or Feng Shun Tang). The church was originally built in the 1500s, and much of the structure and decor still dates to a 1600s remodel.
