Pre-33 $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle Coin (VF)

Any coin that is categorized as a Pre1933 US gold coin is a truly rare precious metal product. In the 1930s, the federal government began collecting all gold coins in circulation to melt down. You now have the chance to purchase one of these rare coins, with the Pre-1933 $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle Coin available for a limited time.

Coin Highlights:

  • Contains .2418 oz. of .900 pure gold.
  • Issued by the US Mint with a $5 (USD) face value.
  • Featured Neoclassical designs from Christian Gobrecht.
  • Available in Very Fine condition.
  • Individual coins shipped in plastic flips.

In an effort to provide financial stability for the federal government during the Great Depression, President Franklin Roosevelt ordered the collection of all gold coins in circulation so they could be melted into gold bars. As a result, remaining coins are sought by investors, collectors, and history buffs due to their monetary and historic value.

On the reverse side of each coin is an altogether unique design created by Christian Gobrecht. Influenced by the Omnia Vincit Amor, or Love Conquers All, painting by Benjamin West, Gobrecht created a left-profile bust of Lady Liberty. She wears a crown with the word “Liberty” atop her head, with 13 stars above her head and the year of minting below.

The obverse side of the coin features the heraldic eagle. In the image, the eagle has its wings spread wide and a shield graces its chest. Clutched in one talon are the arrows of war, while an olive branch of peace is in the other. Engravings on this side include “United States of America” and the face value.

The United States Mint struck these Pre-1933 $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagle coins between 1838 and 1908, using the Philadelphia, San Francisco, New Orleans, Carson City, and Denver Mints throughout its production run. Each coin in this listing is available in Very Fine, VF, condition. Coins in VF condition show light to medium signs of wear, but all major features remain sharp and detailed.
