In 1982, the Chinese Mint issued the first coins of the Chinese Gold Panda Series. At the time, the only other gold bullion coins available to private buyers were the South African Krugerrand and Canadian Maple Leaf. The mint introduced the series with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins.

In this listing, JM Bullion offers 1/2 oz Chinese Gold Pandas from random dates. The exact 1/2 oz Gold Panda weight was available from 1982 to 2015, with the switch to Grams in 2016 resulting in the transition to a 15 Gram gold coin instead of the 1/2 oz coin. Another item to note is the different face values possible for 1/2 oz Gold Pandas. From 1982 to 2000, the coins had a face value of 50 Yuan, while coins issued from 2001 to 2015 have a 200 Yuan face value.

Obverse designs on 1/2 oz Chinese Gold Pandas feature the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This design was created in 1982 for the series and features on the obverse of all weights in the gold series. Reverse imagery on these 1/2 oz Chinese Gold Pandas includes various possible images of the Giant Panda. The only possible matching designs are found on the 2001 and 2002 coins, the only use of a repeat image in the series.

These 1/2 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coins are available in Mint State 69 condition. As near-perfect specimens, these coins showcase full, original mint luster and have no more than two minor detractions. Examples of these minor flaws include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines that must be located outside the primary focal points of the coin.
