This 1834-P Capped Bust Quarter Coin comes in MS66 condition with a plastic slab. Coins at this grade have an above-average quality for the surface and mint luster. There are no more than three or four minor contact marks, with a few light hairlines visible under magnification. The Browning 4 designation identifies the specific die used for the production of Capped Bust Quarters in 1834. Specifically, these coins were struck with the fourth die that the US Mint used in 1834 for the production of these coins. These coins feature a unique silver combination for the era, with 89.2% silver and 10.8% copper.

John Reich is credited with the development of the capped-head Liberty portrait of the early 19th century. William Kneass, 2nd Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, would modify the design for use on the early nickel, dime, quarter, and half dollar at the US Mint. Additionally, Robert Scot, 1st Chief Engraver of the US Mint, also famously used a design known as Capped Bust (or more popularly, Turban Head) for the Quarter Eagle, Half Eagle, and Eagle gold denominations. The Capped Bust Quarter was produced from 1815 to 1838.

The obverse of 1834-P Capped Bust Quarters comes with a portrait of Lady Liberty. This distinctive design casts Liberty in left-profile relief with a large Phrygian cap on her head. The design is accompanied by 13 stars around the edge of the field and the year of the issue at the bottom of the design.
