Description

1911-D Pre-33 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle Coin NGC MS61 (Strong D)

The 1911 Indian Quarter Eagle from the United States Mint featured a small mintage of coins from the Denver Mint. The 1911D Indian Quarter Eagle available here is a survivor of that limited mintage and has a beautiful combination of golden brilliance with a satin-like luster. The incuse designs on each side are boldly struck and offer a beautiful representation of America’s first-ever incuse coin. Right now, the 1911-D Pre-33 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle Coin with a strong D mint mark is available.

Coin Highlights:

  • Arrives in an individual plastic slab!
  • 4th release of Indian Quarter Eagles!
  • Low mintage of only 55,680 coins from Denver!
  • Limited availability of certified specimens!
  • Contains .121 troy oz of actual gold content.
  • Bears a face value of $2.50 (USD) backed by the federal government.
  • Issued a Grade of Mint State 61 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Indigenous tribal leader’s effigy on the obverse.
  • American bald eagle on the reverse.
  • D mint mark from the Denver Mint.

This 1911-D Pre-33 $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle Coin is an MS61 specimen with scattered, light contact marks visible along the peripherals and other minor detractions consistent with an MS61 certification. This particular coin has smooth fields with a soft, satin-like appearance and a modest cartwheel luster when viewed in direct light. The details on the devices on both sides remain sharp. Only 951 specimens from the 1911-D Quarter Eagle release earned this certification.

The Indian Quarter Eagle was the final design for the Pre-33 $2.50 Gold denomination. Introduced in 1908, the coins featured the first-ever incuse design strikes in American coinage history. The coins were issued annually from 19081 to 1915, with subsequent production from 1925 to 1929.

In the obverse design of the 1911-D $2.50 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle, you’ll find the left-profile bust of an indigenous tribal leader. The figure is shown with a ceremonial headdress and is surrounded by 13 stars.

For the reverse of 1911-D Pre-33 Indian Quarter Eagle Coins, the mint captures the image of an American bald eagle. The bird is shown at rest, with its wings at its side, as it sits perched on a sheaf of arrows wrapped with an olive branch.
