Description

1989 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coin (Large Date, Sealed)

The Chinese Gold Panda is one of the world’s longest-running gold bullion coin collections. Introduced by the Chinese Mint in 1982, this series has been consistently available to investors with new reverse depictions of the Giant Panda for each year of issue, save one. Right now, 1989 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coins are available with Large Date marks online.

Coin Highlights:

  • Arrives in sealed protective plastic!
  • 8th release of Chinese Gold Pandas!
  • Large Date issue!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure gold.
  • Bears a face value of 100 Yuan backed by the government of China.
  • The obverse features the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests.
  • On the reverse is a playful Giant Panda.

Each of the 1989 1 oz Chinese Gold Panda Coins offered here comes sealed in protective plastic. The Chinese Mint issued two varieties of 1 oz Gold Pandas in 1989, with Large Date issues struck by its mint in Shenyang, while Small Date issues were struck by its mint in Shanghai. The Shenyang Large Date coins are considered the scarcer of the two.

1989 Gold Panda Coins with the Large Date moniker are named as such due to the numerals used on the reverse side of the coin. The date mark of 1989 appears in slightly larger, thicker numerals than those issued by Shanghai in the Small Date issue. Comparatively, the Shanghai-issued Small Dates have smaller, thinner numerals.

The obverse side of 1989 Chinese Gold Pandas comes with a depiction of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This design has graced the coins consistently since 1982 and captures an exterior view of the building. The Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests is the central structure with the Temple of Heaven Complex in Beijing.

On the reverse of the 1989 1 oz Gold Panda Coin, you will find the image of a Giant Panda. This year’s design shows a playful panda seated on its backside while it holds a bamboo branch in its palm. This is one of the many different designs of the Giant Panda to feature in this program, with only the 2002 coin offering a repeat design in the history of the series.
