The Burnished American Gold Eagle coin debuted in 2006 and was available in the same four weights as the Proof American Gold Eagle. Despite the competition for the interests of gold collectors, the Proof Gold Eagles moved higher. The 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagles were again available for individual purchase and as a part of the standard 4-Coin Proof American Gold Eagle set.

In this design, Liberty walks forward with her torch held high in her right hand to light the way into the future and an olive branch in her left hand as a symbol of peace. A ring of 50 stars encircles the design field while rays of sun frame her figure from behind.
The reverse face of 2007 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins bears the image of a family of American bald eagle. This design was created in 1986 specifically for the Gold Eagles and includes a male eagle, female eagle, and a hatchling in the nest.
