The 2008-W 4-Coin Proof American Gold Eagle Coin Set comprises of four coins released in 2008. They are available in four fractional weights that include 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz. Each coin is compiled in its own capsule and then joined with the other three together in a display box with a Certificate of Authenticity. As proof coins, you will notice frosted designs over mirror-like background fields.
Lady Liberty features on the obverse of the 2008-W 4-Coin Proof American Gold Eagle Coin Set. This historic design was originally created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle Coin from the US Mint until 1933. It depicts Liberty in front-facing relief as she walks toward the viewer holding aloft a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.
A family of bald eagles is found in the reverse design. This design was exclusive to the Gold Eagle Series and was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek. It shows a female eagle in the nest with a hatchling as a male eagle soars overhead with a branch in its talons.
All Proof American Eagle coins are produced by the United States Mint, with all current versions struck by the West Point Mint facility.
