The Mexican Mint introduced the Gold Centenario in 1921 to commemorate the centennial of Mexico’s independence from Spanish colonial rule, which had been achieved in 1821. This prestigious coin was created as both a celebration of national sovereignty and a symbol of Mexico’s rich cultural heritage. The timing of its release coincided with extensive national festivities marking this historic milestone

In the obverse design of 2010 Mexican Gold Libertads, you will find the national coat of arms. The modern national seal features a powerful golden eagle battling with a serpent on the perch of a prickly pear cactus. This seal is encircled by a wreath of oak and laurel beneath, with the outer rim of the field featuring 10 historic versions of the seal.

For the reverse of 2010 1 oz Gold Libertad Coins, the mint features the image of Winged Victory. Constructed during the 1921 centennial celebrations, this monument features a statue based on the goddess Nike at the top of a column overlooking Mexico City. The background includes the volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.
