The modern national seal features a powerful golden eagle battling with a serpent on the perch of a prickly pear cactus. This seal is encircled by a wreath of oak and laurel beneath, with the outer rim of the field featuring 10 historic versions of the seal.

Constructed during the 1921 centennial celebrations, this monument features a statue based on the goddess Nike at the top of a column overlooking Mexico City.
