Canadian Gold Maple Leafs historically featured Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Her Majesty’s long reign as Queen of England and the United Kingdom saw her effigy appear on coins throughout the Commonwealth Nations. Canada featured four different portraits of the Queen through 2023. The 2024 Maple Leaf was the first in the program’s history to not feature Queen Elizabeth II, with King Charles III having formally ascended the throne during his coronation in May 2023.
All 2024 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins come individually packaged and securely sealed in a plastic capsule. The coin is accompanied by a Royal Canadian Mint assay certificate, which verifies its weight, purity, and gold content. Additionally, the certificate features the signature of Charles Daoust, the Chief Assayer at the Royal Canadian Mint.
On the obverse of the 2024 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf, you will find the first-ever effigy of King Charles III to appear on Canadian coins. This left-profile portrait of His Majesty, created by artist Steven Rosati, debuted on Royal Canadian Mint coins in 2024 and shows the monarch without a crown.
The reverse of 2024 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coins features the sugar maple leaf design, a symbol of Canada’s rich natural heritage. Designed by Walter Ott in 1979, this intricate depiction of a single maple leaf has been the defining feature of the Gold Maple Leaf Series since its inception.
