Each 2026 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coin offered here comes in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The Gold Buffalo coins are individually packaged in plastic flips or by multiples of 20 in protective tubes. The 1 oz Gold Buffalo is a 24-karat gold coin with .9999 pure gold content.
The American Gold Buffalo was introduced by the United States Mint in 2006 as the nation’s first-ever 24-karat gold coin to be issued annually. Since the program was launched in 2004, the US Mint has struck more than 4.8 million American Gold Buffalos across the various styles issued over the last two decades.
Obverse designs on the 2026 American Gold Buffalo include a right-profile portrait of a stoic indigenous figure. James Earle Fraser initially created this design for the 1913 Buffalo Nickel. Rather than capturing the real-life appearance of a single individual, Fraser used the physical features of three different indigenous figures from the early 20th century as inspiration for this portrait.
Reverse visuals on the 2026 1 oz Gold Buffalo Coin showcase the might of the American bison. This design was also created by Fraser and it depicts an American bison in left-profile relief. Based on Black Diamond, a bison that resided at the Central Park Zoo in the early 20th century, this bison is shown with its head down as it grazes on a small mound of earth.
