Description

2026 1 oz British Gold Tudor Beasts Queen’s Lion Coin (BU)

The Royal Mint launched The Tudor Beasts Series in 2022 as the successor to the Queen’s Beasts Series. This ongoing collection includes ten total designs inspired by the heraldic statues positioned on the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court. Each featured beast draws on the Tudor tradition of using symbolic imagery, with King Henry VIII in particular adopting these emblems to affirm the dynasty’s legitimacy following the Wars of the Roses. Today, 2026 1 oz British Gold Tudor Beasts Queen’s Lion Coins are available.

Coin Highlights:

  • Comes with individual flips, plastic tubes of 10 coins, or Monster Boxes of 100 coins!
  • 8th BU issue in the Tudor Beasts Series!
  • Contains 1 troy oz of .9999 pure gold in BU condition.
  • The face value of 100 Pound sterling (GBP) is fully backed by the British government.
  • On the obverse is King Charles III.
  • The reverse features the Queen’s Lion with the personal badge of Jane Seymour.

While the Tudors extensively deployed the lion in the heraldic symbolism of the dynasty, particularly during the marriage of Henry VIII and Jane Seymour, the lion has deeper roots in English heraldry. The lion first appeared in English heraldry during the twelfth century, emerging as one of the earliest and most enduring symbols in medieval heraldic tradition. One of the earliest documented examples can be traced to Geoffrey Plantagenet, Count of Anjou, who died in 1151 and whose tomb displays what would become recognizable heraldic practices.

All 2026 1 oz British Gold Tudor Beasts Queen’s Lion Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition with individual or bulk packaging. Individual coins come with protective flips, while multiples are available in plastic tubes of 10 coins or Monster Boxes of 100 coins.

The obverse side of the 2026 British Gold Tudor Beasts Queen’s Lion Coins carries the portrait of King Charles III. Designed by Martin Jennings in late 2022, this inaugural depiction presents His Majesty in left-profile relief without a crown atop his head.

The reverse of the 2026 1 oz Gold Tudor Beasts Queen’s Lion Coins showcases the Queen’s Lion, a heraldic symbol tied to Jane Seymour. Henry VIII employed this crowned lion to elevate Jane Seymour’s standing when she became queen consort, and the design includes the lion bearing her personal badge.
