A gold proof coin set from Burundi. An uncommon set, this unusual collection was minted to celebrate the first anniversary of Burundi becoming a republic.
The set is struck in .900 purity gold and features five coins: 100Fr, 50Fr, 25Fr, 20Fr, 10Fr. The Francs weigh a total of 65.6g and contain 59.04g of fine gold, and the design features both the president at the time, Michel Micombero, and the Burundi coat of arms.
Burundi was formerly a Belgian colony and, as such, French is one of the African nation’s three official languages and the country commonly used both Belgian and French Francs.
The coins come in a presentation box with a certificate. The coin box reads: “REPUBLIQUE DU BURUNDI “, “1 ANNIVERSAIRE DE LA REPIBLIQUE”.
