Description
2002 Proof American Platinum Eagle 4-Coin Set (Box + CoA)
When the United States Mint introduced the American Platinum Eagle in 1997, the bullion and proof versions of the coin shared obverse and reverse design concepts. However, starting in 1998, the US Mint would introduce new proof reverse designs annually and continue to do so through 2016. Many of these Proof Platinum Eagle designs fell into mini-collections featuring similar themes. The first of these was the Vistas of Liberty Series. Right now, 2002 Proof American Platinum Eagle 4-Coin Sets are available.

From 1998 to 2002, the US Mint featured its Vistas of Liberty design series for Proof Platinum Eagles. These designs captured the images of American bald eagles soaring across various environments and regions in the United States. The designs were created by two different artists, with Thomas D. Rogers creating the 1998 and 2001 designs, while Al Maletsky created the 1999, 2000, and 2002 designs.
The obverse of the 2002 Proof American Platinum Eagles comes with a depiction of the face of the Statue of Liberty. This design was created in 1997 for the program’s debut by John Mercanti. This image still graces the obverse of all BU Platinum Eagles and was on the obverse of Proof Platinum Eagles from 1997 to 2017.
On the reverse side of 2002 Proof Platinum Eagle Coins, you will find the image of an American bald eagle swooping toward a lake to capture a trout splashing from the surface. The design includes a lake encircled by snowcapped mountains and reflects the visuals of the Northwestern United States.
